It does an amazing job of cooking the rice to perfection. The instructions were easy to follow especially for being a novice. I am anxious to try the different settings for different rices and cakes. I called the company to find out about the built in clock. The instructions did not explain whether you have to have the unit plugged in to recharge the clock. The answer is that you do not have to have it plugged in. It is a lithium battery that has a 5-6 year life and then you would call the company directly to have it replaced.The clean up was really easy again by following the instructions. I highly recommend this product. Have owned a rice cooker almost all of my adult years. This is my second Zojurishi cooker. Owning a Zojurishi is so way worth it. Why? It just plain cooks the rice as well as it can be made. I few years ago, I relocated to a far away local and eventually purchased a run of the mill rice cooker, and never liked it. Finally purchased another Zojurishi and now think I was silly for the time I did not have it. Full features and cooking options are cool too. The only draw back on my current model is that it does not have a run off for excess condensation, like my other one had. This does not affect the quality of my rice, just a noticeable difference. The rice cooks perfectly and does not stick to the container making it very easy to clean. The main cooker is designed well. There is a small indention around the opening to collect the steam. Although it takes 45 minutes to cook the rice, it's well worth it....
