This review is from: Zojirushi THA-803 8-Liter Electric Rice Warmer, Wood GrainAwesome product, I own a restaurant and the quality and reliability of zojirushi products has always been remarkable. I just hope Amazon could have it delivered abroad directly, as I had to use an intermediary which made the product cost around 40% more than the original price!...

This review is from: Cuckoo Commercial Rice Cooker -30 CupsI make only white rice but this units works extremely well. It is a cheaper fuzzy logic model than Zoji's and Tigers but it seems to do everything the other ones can. I like the steam rack because I like to steam lots of things. My favorite is buying the bread mixture for chinese bread (the white ones they give you in the restaurants), and steaming it in the rice cooker. One complaint is that the rack can seem a little flimsy, but it does the job....

Wolfgang Puck WPDRCR10 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Steamer

This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPDRCR10 10-Cup Rice Cooker and SteamerI have owned this cooker for just over one year. I rarely take time to write reviews because I usually have nothing significant to add. This time is different! I hope everyone reads what I have to say because their and their family's health depend upon it. What is also disturbing is that Wolfgang Puck's company could not care any less.Upon receiving this rice cooker, I was shocked at the POOR QUALITY of the cooking pot itself, which is light-weight aluminum sprayed with a very thin, teflon-like coating to keep the rice from sticking. I usually only buy the very best cookware, and rarely buy any with a non-stick coating because it is well known that these coatings contain toxic substances that we can ingest as they break down. I bought this sight-unseen, though, because I was only going to be steaming food in it and I trusted this would be up to my high standards. After all, Wolfgang's "spiel" for this item includes these words: "... he brings that same (unparalleled) level of excellence to his own line of professional-quality cookware." If this is his idea of professional-quality cookware, I now think he must be an idiot - or a fraud. While I am not one who likes to complain, I called his company twice over the past year to discuss this problem. I got nowhere. They just do not care about design issues that can affect public health, so I decided to write about this problem instead. As careful as I have been to use the special plastic spoon provided with the cooker to prevent scratching, the pot's toxic finish began to show marks of wear within two weeks of once-a-day use. A replacement pot that I recently began to use has shown the same undue wear. I see now it is a design problem. The cooking pot is one layer of thin aluminum with no extra layers at its bottom where it sits directly over a hot heating element. Although the element is covered, it obviously is not enough to protect the bottom of the pot from heating temperatures that cause the ultra-thin, non-stick coating to break down. It only breaks down at the bottom, not at the sides. Both cooking pots began to show wear and tear within just a couple of weeks of light daily use, and leaving food in it to keep it warm probably hastens the breakdown. The problem is not an aesthetic one. This breakdown of a toxic surface contaminates the food you eat and can lead to cancer and contribute to other health problems. As I said above, I see no recourse but to throw the whole thing out. What good does it do to keep replacing a cooking pot that is simply not built to specs that can withstand sitting on top of its heating element? After going through two cooking pots in less than 6 months of usage, I believe it is fair to say that the coating on the pot is simply not heat-resistant enough to be safely used as instructed in this rice cooker. Shame on Wolfgang Puck for putting his name on it and misleading so many of us!...This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPDRCR10 10-Cup Rice Cooker and SteamerThis rice cooker makes the perfect sticky rice. Don't follow the recipe on the bag of rice...instead, try pouring 2 cups of rinsed long grain or medium rice into the nonstick bowl, and then fill the water to the 2 1/2 cup line (the bowl has measuring lines on the sides of the bowl). This recipe makes great sticky rice! Also, the rice cooker turns off automatically when it's ready to eat, and defaults to a warming mode that keeps rice fresh....This review is from: Wolfgang Puck WPDRCR10 10-Cup Rice Cooker and SteamerI was skeptical buying this one because there were so few reviews, however, the other rice cookers/steamers in this price range had such mixed reviews that I took my chances on this one. I love it! The rice was cook perfectly, no burnt rice on the bottom at all. Also, the keep warm feature does not burn the rice either. Additionally, the lid and the inside of the rice cooker are removable making for very easy cleaning. Really great!...

Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice Cooker

This review is from: Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice CookerAfter purchasing this unit, I too had spill over at very low water rice levels. I realized that this is the same problem one would get, using even medium heat to cook grits, or rice in a regular pot.......(If you leave the top of the pot down tight.)There is no way, because of the high heat setting of this unit, that the glass lid supplied can be used to completely cover the cooking pot, even though the instruction book indicates so.. The hole would have to be much larger to allow steam to escape. The temperature setting of the heating dictates the designer set it high to allow the use of the steaming attachment, using a high boiling point The steam will push the oxygen mols from the pot causing a very low barometric air pressure. With this the bubbles generated by the boiling rice water will have almost no air pressure to keep them low or at minimum.{ they expand greaty), Thus foaming out the sides of the pot.Even though I could not find in the instruction that the glass top would not work if it was used to completely cover the cooker top while cooking, the picture on the box was a clue. The picture shows the steamer unit sitting in place, with the glass lid on top. Using the steamer attachment, 2 measures of rice using plastic, and 2 1/3 cups of water using a measuring cup, I started the unit.A few bubbles and steam came up through the bottom of the steamer, for a while, and than decreased. ( no boil over ). Once the temperature in the unit exceeded 220 degrees ( all water boiled off) : the unit went into stand-by.Perfectly cooked rice. Every time I use the steamer unit, even if I not even steaming vegetable or etc. No boil over. It has many holes in it to allow steam excapement with outboil over. Caution........... The steamer tray gets as hot as the steam generated in the cooking process.Do not touch the steamer tray attachment with-out waiting for it to cool, and keep this unit well away from the reach of children, or uncovered,un-protected hands. In this cooling time the "laden" heat in the left over steam can return to the rice, and complete the cooking cycle. If the water is allowed to boil out, burnt rice at the bottom. The directions are in error, Check it out, Happy riceing...This review is from: Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice CookerI purchased this rice cooker without reading any reviews. At first I cooked long grain rice and had no problems with boil over. Then I tried making Jasmine rice and the explosions started. Frustrated, I went online to read product reviews. After my 100th review, I, too, hated this product and would've given it a really bad review. It was going in the trash. However, I have a Cuisinart blender and toaster that I love so I kept reading more reviews. There's an earlier post in this thread that gives a very scientific review of how the instructions are wrong. And instead of using the glass cover you should use the steam tray as the top when cooking rice. I had nothing to lose, so I tried it using Jasmine rice. The results? No boil over and absolutely no mess whatsoever. I must say that my Jasmine rice taste a little like long grain rice as it's light and fluffy and not mushy how I like it. BUT, I didn't have any spill over, there was no mess on my counter, and the rice is delicous. So I completely agree. DO NOT USE THE GLASS COVER, use the STEAM TRAY instead as your cover and you will not have any spill over. The other review wrote something about the heating plates needing to be extra hot to steam the food so it was set up more for steaming than cooking rice. The hole in the glass top didn't provide enough air...Just use the steam tray instead of the glass cover. For my more mushier rice I will just add a tiny bit more water or not. This is now a great product in my book. I just wish CuisinArt would've gotten their directions right. So 4 stars for having me to clean up the mess on my own and go online for the truth, and wasting my time. Otherwise, 5 stars because I now have excellent rice and a beautiful rice cooker/steamer....This review is from: Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice CookerThis machine does a lousy job cooking rice. I used cheapo $20.00 rice cooker for 10 years (before it died)and it cooked perfect rice. Coconut rice, rice with broth, with vegies in it etc..., no problem. The Cuisinart stopped cooking before all the liquid was gone. It also boils like crazy. I think the issue is that the insert is tall and narrow. Generally in most rice cookers the insert is wider than it is tall. This is a poorly designed machine and definitely not worth the price tag....

Proctor Silex 37533 10-Cup Rice Cooker, White

This review is from: Proctor Silex 37533 10-Cup Rice Cooker, WhiteI've been using this rice cooker for over a year, 3-4 times a week. Tonight's rice came out every bit as perfect as the batches made when I got it. It comes with its own scoop that you use to measure both rice and water, and a list of rice/water ratios for various types of rice. You add the rice, the water, and any flavorings you want, pop the lid on and click it over to cook, and leave it alone to do its thing. In about 30-45 minutes, depending on your type of rice, the cooker switches over to warm, and you have perfectly cooked rice. The capacity for this rice cooker is half of what it states on the box, but in all honesty, I bought it because of its compact size and price and hadn't even noticed the "10 cup" capacity marked on the box until I read some of the reviews here when I came to buy another one for a gift. This cooker is perfectly sized for someone with a small kitchen or someone cooking for only 1 or 2 people. I get a generous portion of cooked rice, and some left over for lunch the next day. I love trying new rice varieties, mixing combinations of rices, quinoa, and lentils. This cooker will even cook broccoli florets while it cooks your rice.I will admit to having a few instances of undercooked rice, but in every case, adding more water and switching to cook a bit longer solved the problem. I suspect that I didn't measure as accurately as I should have in the first place. The unit seems to work by sensing when the water has been used up and then the unit kicks over to warm.I've had a few boil overs, but they've been infrequent, and usually only happen when I'm making a smaller batch. The direction book says to reduce the water by 1/3 when making small batches, and I've found that helps. The one time I had a boil over on a large batch, my ingredient level was over the -max- line stamped inside the bowl.Wear and tear on this cooker consists of some scratches in the nonstick coating caused by using the wrong type of utensils to scoop out the rice, and some discoloration around the metal edge of the lid, probably from overzealous scrubbing. Both the lid and the bowl go in the dishwasher, but I was well trained by my mother to do all the work before giving the dishwasher another shot. The nonstick coating inside the bowl makes cleanup a matter of rinsing the bowl in soapy water and wiping it dry. The lid gets a little more crusty.I'm surprised at the low ratings from other buyers, but I can understand that when buying something online, you expect 10 cups to be 10 cups. I purchased this item at a local store for $20, and selected it for its perceived size in comparison to other cookers on the shelves, so I wasn't expecting a larger volume than I got. I'm buying another one for my niece who is moving away from home for the first time....This review is from: Proctor Silex 37533 10-Cup Rice Cooker, WhiteI was very disappointed with this product due to the fact it was supposed to be a 10 cup but what I received says 10 but is the same size as all 3 Cups. I had a 10 cup prior and this is not 10 Cup. Iam sorry I wasted my credit monies on this item. Anyone who thinks they are going to get a 10 cup you will be very surprised to see the size this is (VERY SMALL). It is half the size of a real 10 cup. Better to by in person from now on so you can see exact size!...

This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food SteamerEven though I felt the low price on this cooker was suspect, I thought I would give it a chance. I wasn't expecting it to last long or work well - boy was I wrong!! I have used it several times a week for going on three years now, and it's still working flawlessly - try to say that about, well, probably any other small applicance in your entire kitchen.Everyone should have a rice-cooker - they're great time-savers, not to mention meal-savers. Even people who can't boil water can make perfect rice every time. The reasons I love my Aroma cooker in particular are: 1) It makes much less mess than others I've used (rice cookers tend to blurble starchy water around the rim while cooking, but the heavy glass lid of the Aroma, and the vent hole, keep it from spattering the counter)2) It shuts off automatically when it's done cooking, regardless of the type of rice used (I still have no idea how it "knows" there's brown rice that needs a longer cooking time in there, as opposed to jasmine rice which cooks faster - but it does!) 3) It keeps the rice warm for hours if necessary without burning on the bottom or drying out4) The inner pot lifts out easily to clean. If I ever have to replace this little workhorse, I'll definitely replace it with another Aroma. (I hope by then they make one in red!)...This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food SteamerI bought this rice cooker eight months ago and it was really convenient at first. Recently however, the cooked rice has started sticking to the bottom of the cooking pan - apart from burnt rice, this also causes the pan to become really hard to clean. If I add more water, it still sticks at the bottom while remaining soggy above - weird since the coating of the pan seems to be intact. The only good thing about this cooker is that it steams veggies beautifully....This review is from: Aroma ARC7171G 14- Cup Rice Cooker & Food SteamerI had an older version of this same rice cooker, and I replaced it with this one when it died. It's very easy to use, consistently makes great rice and steamed vegetables, and very easy to clean as well. The steaming tray is a bit small, but it's perfect for me and my fiancee....
