This review is from: Tiger America 5.5 c. Electr Rice Cooker/Warm ( JAZ-A10U )I really like brown rice so it was important for me to do ANYTHING to get a cooker to work, especially one that was smaller. I started out with white basmati because I wanted to "give the cooker a chance" assuming it would find it easier to cook white rice. I got rice mush instead.I tried long grain brown rice which I had soaked all day. I got brown rice mush. I called Tiger and was told that white Basmati requires less water than other rices, and that this cooker would not cook brown rice. Well I haven't tried white basmati again yet, but I have cooked short grain brown rice several times and really like it. The trick is to soak the rice for 2 to 4 hours in advance of cooking. I like my rice a little chewy so I soak for 2 to 3 hours. Long grain brown rice is best soaked for 4 hours ahead of time.WITH ALL RICE, MAKE SURE TO RINSE IT THOROUGHLY BEFORE COOKING. I also like that I can make 3 cups instead of 6. Left over rice is great for breakfast with some butter, sugar and dried cherries, but you should eat the rice within a week. It will taste funny after a week in the refrigerator....This review is from: Tiger America 5.5 c. Electr Rice Cooker/Warm ( JAZ-A10U )I'm an Asian so we cook rice a lot (twice a day). Tiger is a famous brand and we used to have a 4 cup and liked it very much. This one, however, is very disappointing! Within one year the bottom of the pot is worn out with very heavy scraches. We never used a metal spatula but the one comes with it. The rice also got burned at the bottom. The price was a little cheaper compared with other models but you got what you paid for. Actually it's not cheap if you think it only lasted one year....

Aroma ARC-1033E Commercial 60-Cup Rice Cooker

This review is from: Aroma ARC-1033E Commercial 60-Cup Rice Cookerits a great item, very large, im a big rice eater, so it works perfectly for me, just follow the instruction, and you will be fine, remember to add the same amount of water which you add rice PLUS quarter more...any mmeasurmnet you are using, to cook rice, you must add the same amount water plus quarter of the same measurment (water)....press cook buttom it will be ready in about 20 minutes,BUT, remember not to open the cover in between and NEVER when it beebs, you gotta wait atleast 20 more minutes after the beeb sound, so it can get cooked completly and perfectly....also: do NOT put the rice cooker next to or on counter that is close to other items around it especially next to wooden cabinet simply because it starts making kinda powerful steam coming from the little hole which is normal and can make lots of moisture, i personally would put it on the flat floor in the kitchen or any floor, nothing around it,..make sure no kids running around the house....washing tips: do NOT scrub the pot, it might get some, mild crust, just soak it in water few hours or over night and gently wash it off with soft spong NOTHING rough, and rinse it....you do NOT want to scratch it..also: Do NOT fill the pot, you get lots of rice by filling it less than half, and the cover will still start moving a bit beacuse of steam, so 2 big, large glass of rice will give you more than 7 portion of rice, and thats big middle eastern portion, ..after cooking couple of times you will get a hang of it.....This review is from: Aroma ARC-1033E Commercial 60-Cup Rice CookerBought this one because of the price. I needed another one because I gave my "old faithful" to my son who now has a large family. Works wonderfully. Let the inner pot soak a few minutes and it cleans right up....This review is from: Aroma ARC-1033E Commercial 60-Cup Rice CookerWe bought this cooker a few months ago. So far it's been working great. Awesome capacity and fairly quick cooking time. The only CON about this product is that the edge of the heavy duty lid is SHARP. It's almost ridiculous. I've been around rice cookers all my life and this is the only 'dangerous' lid I've ever encountered. Washing with soapy hands, one slip and it slices right through soft hands. Otherwise, it should be alright if you're careful. As for the functionality of the cooker itself, it's fine. Works well....

TATUNG TRC-6UD White 5.5 Cup Electronic Rice Cooker

This review is from: TATUNG TRC-6UD White 5.5 Cup Electronic Rice CookerQuality's bad enough that I use less than a year, rice cooker at the bottom began to paint chips. We all know that the layer of coating is harmful, I do not know where to find a new liner, so I can throw the whole pot!...This review is from: TATUNG TRC-6UD White 5.5 Cup Electronic Rice CookerIt could not have done better at sucking in quality. 1 month after purchase---yes, just one month---the rick cooker became a rice eater. Its inner coating became very sticky and each cook it wasted at least 1/2 cup of rice. This one is even worse than the $10 rice cooker sold in walmart....

Sanyo EC-503 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer, White

This review is from: Sanyo EC-503 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer, WhiteI must say this is my first cooker, and I chose a small one since I'm single. I found it handy to have the meal ready and warm when I come home for lunch breaks (I live close to the office), or in the evenings, when I'm tired and don't feel like cooking. The cooker has a cook mode and a "keep warm" - once the cooking is done it switches to the latter and the warm food awaits you to arrive home!I found the instructions regarding how much water to use (depending on rice quantity) to be a little on the low side - the rice I got was somewhat dry for my taste. I also used it to cook other grains - quinoa and millet (BTW, the I millet I get with the cooker is the best I've tasted so far). Learning from the rice experience, I now put more water, actually I use more water than if I would cook in a pot!If you stick to the grains/water proportions, you have no problem with making a mess in the kitchen. If you use (much) more water, you might see the lid and the area around the cooker becoming a little stained, as in steam/water which dried and left some stains. For me this is not an issue - I want a good food first, kitchen comes after. Actually, you might not even see that - it's such a minor issue - but if you do, then you just need to use less water. In my experience, this doesn't happen with rice, but other grains (notably millet) swell a lot more during cooking. The instructions (and the web) say that it is possible to cook other dishes (stews, etc.) using the cooker, but haven't done that yet. This cooker doesn't have an on-off button, you need to plug and unplug it from the outlet. This is a non-issue for me, but "your mileage msy vary". I guess this can actually work to your advantage: if you are really cheap, you can get an appliance device which you can program so that the cooking starts - say - about 40 minutes before you get home, and thus you save electricity money on the "keeping warm" time. This is also possible to do with smarter cookers, but they cost $70+ more....This review is from: Sanyo EC-503 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer, WhiteNote that the "3 cup" size is not your typical 8oz. size. The one supplied with the rice cooker and is to used following their directions, is a 6 oz. cup. So, instead of having 3 cooked cups of rice, you only get 2.25 cups of rice. Other than this, I found the cooker works very well....This review is from: Sanyo EC-503 3-Cup Rice Cooker and Vegetable Steamer, WhiteWe love our rice cooker. Honestly, I haven't tasted rice this good anywhere on the planet. And what it does to sweet potatoes you wouldn't believe. There's only one problem. There's only two of us, so I got the small, 3-cup cooker. I can only add 2 cups of liquid, so I can't make what would be 3 cups of rice, or it will boil over. Get one with more capacity, unless you live alone....

TIGER JAY-A55UR JAYA55U RICE COOKER 3CUP MICOM

This review is from: TIGER JAY-A55UR JAYA55U RICE COOKER 3CUP MICOMI've had this rice cooker for over a year now. Tiger has a great reputation, and I wanted a machine that would be accurate and keep rice warm well. This machine uses fuzzy logic to make great rice, but....I'm not sure why this machine takes a loooong time to cook rice. I don't know if it's because the heater is slow in getting the water boiling or what, but I always have to make sure I get the rice cooking first before I do any of the cooking. It's mildly annoying. It shouldn't take 45 mins to cook 3 cups of rice. Anyway, I'm still giving it 4 stars because it does make delicious rice and the machine is well made. One other note: the readout/clock is powered by a battery which you apparently cannot change out yourself. I thought this was weird, but I did know this ahead of time and still bought the machine. Not sure what I'm going to do when the battery dies....This review is from: TIGER JAY-A55UR JAYA55U RICE COOKER 3CUP MICOMI've had my Tiger Jay-A55 for a week. I bought it on the recommendation of my sister who got one from a friend that lives in Japan. It is clearly a fantastic rice cooker. It's built very well and cooks rice perfectly every time. Every batch has been better than any rice i have ever cook at home before (even when using the 20min quick rice setting). No more dry, burnt, or sticky mush...and the automatic keep warm feature keeps the rice perfect for hours. Definitely restaurant quality rice, worth every penny.Tiger, where have you been all my life?...
